SING UP - CONNAUGHT GARDENS - Sunday 10th March 1.00 onwards. - CANCELLED!!!

Dear All, SUNDAY’S SING UP HAS BEEN CANCELLED ... -

Here’s a brief statement from Mark Weaver, one of those who were Occupying the Gardens in solidarity with the displaced residents.

‘It has been an intense week.

The response from everyone has been phenomenal.

The pressure and strain on the local residents has also been overwhelming. The uncertainty of their situation on the toll on their well being has left them with very little strength and hope. On top of this there has been a number of attempts by the authorities to intimidate and divide the community.

After several discussions we have agreed with them to discontinue the efforts to resist their eviction. Together we have already brought awareness and solidarity to their situation.

Massive thank you to everyone who supported this campaign.

We will be posting further updates shortly’

The only thing that makes this situation remotely bearable is to discover, through both local and global initiatives, that while there is a growing swell of anger, there is also, and equally importantly, an often untapped wealth of genuine compassion in the majority of humans, that may eventually rise up and stop these things being allowed to happen.

With love and best wishes Sarah x

Hi All,  (Febuary 1st)

yeah yeah... I know I said I wouldn't do another CHOIR biggie but after 20 or so emails asking what's happening I thought Id just send you all an update on events and news. Too much going on and you are too diverse a crowd to encompass everything so here's a personal summary . Ive been on site most days over the last week getting more and more involved before the break up happens. Whilst committed and inspired I'm also deeply tired, its tough... but blimey I don't even stay.  I go home to a warm house and dogs!

1. Thank you, for those of you who turned up on Saturday . The icy cold probably explained why there were so few of us BUT we were mighty in quality and spirit and I got so much good feedback after our singing that it felt worth it. Occupy ARE CRYING OUT FOR VISITORS ... CHOIRS/COOKS/SMILEY FACES? All events welcome that don't clash with General Assemblies ( 7PM TUES/ WEDS/FRI/SAT)

2. EVICTION NEWS ... the application for appeal will happen at 9am on Monday 13th Feb at RCJ . If granted it'll be heard on the same day. If the appeal fails the City has the right to instigate eviction proceedings 'forthwith' ... whether they act immediately or not we do not know and cannot anticipate THEREFORE a massive call out has gone to all supporters to get down there, on the 13th especially but also before and after SINGING / CHANTING /CONTRIBUTING TO A PEACEFUL DISPLAY OR DEFIANCE ...pink Ghandi cards espousing peaceful means are being printed and handed out. I have ordered 1000 valentines day badges with I  OCCUPY for a light-hearted touch and I'd be proud if you'd wear them ,if you come on down to witness, support and donate .

3. In the absence of a physical hub outreach and on-line initiatives become even more crucial and there's so many exciting link ups happening now re. education / homelessness/ disability issues /the record label/cuts protests and international solidarity to promote participatory democracy. Our citizenship program is firing ahead with many requests for visits from Citizenship teachers around the country  ... we are putting together a package for schools and welcome anyone with relevant experience to contact us to get involved - email me and the teaching team at occupycitizenship@hotmail.co.uk for more details. For those of you interested in getting involved with homeless projects ( and there's 55 homeless occupiers at LSX ) there's a meeting at 4pm this SATURDAY at Tent City University.

4. ST PAUL'S IS BLOODY FREEZING and as you'd expect in this limbo 'survival' state internal divisions and a sense of fragmentation are rife . They need LOVE AND WARMTH ... physical and spiritual to feel that the public have not deserted them. CAN YOU HELP ?... top of the list is blankets, thermals, THERMOS FLASKS , fruit, cheese and pans of soup! We are also really hoping that people will choose to stay a night or two in case as is likely the bailiffs arrive in the middle of the night . WITNESSES CAN HELP PREVENT INTIMIDATION and witness if it happens ... the more the merrier . I will be there over half term as much as I can be and can help you sort tent space if you wish to stay .

From 7PM on Saturday 4TH there's a multi-media event - singers, actors. poets, fire eaters , cabaret ETC bring a blanket etc and a candle.

HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE .  with love Sarah

ON REQUEST FROM MANY  ST PAULS SINGERS - heres a mail out to send on to family and friends about SATURDAY AND THE FUTURE

Dear Friends ... We will soon have The High Court decision on the Occupy appeal- the deadline was this Friday 4pm -after which time it is likely that the City Of London Corporation will start eviction proceedings,; it could be immediately , it'll more likely be a quiet day next week. It was all to be expected BUT The Team at Occupy are making fantastic headway in developing sustainable outreach programs to spread the word and keep the debate alive. This week sees a group Occupy members,  mainly qualified teachers,  going into citizenship classes in secondary schools to demonstrate to and engage students in, the new active, democratic model being employed by Occupy:
BBC NEWS: Occupy protest movement to go into schools.

ALSO This week Occupy have launched a five album recording program   http://occupationrecords.com/news.php with all profits going to the Occupy Movement (I imagine the legal cost will be the most pressing concern right now) CD no 5 IS ALL ABOUT choirs! Established, respected artists the world over are donating/recording tracks to raise funds and be part of this wonderful thing.

I have heard some people are say that the 99% are bored of the subject now BUT the last week has seen a massive resurgence in popular interest...
Occupy in schools attracted 11 mainstream TV slots (including The Wright Stuff - Part 5: Occupy Schools For Lessons In Protest), sections in EVERY media broad and low sheet inc. the Sun! many radio BROADCASTS/DEBATES ETC . There are 45 camps in the UK alone and 1700 worldwide . As the tents may be forced to pack up the debate is growing about a different way to conduct politics, say no to economic and climate injustice and engage the youth in their future.

SO if you are free, supportive or perhaps just curious come down to St Pauls Churchyard for a last big shout to sing LABI SIFFRE'S stirring anthemn SOMETHING INSIDE SO STRONG' 500 singers turned up for the DEC 21ST event, I hope we will have more this time, we need CHOIRS singing in righteous harmony from all over the land to make a glorious noise . Gather on the steps at 2.45pm FOR A 3PM sing out .
Something Inside So Strong

I very much hope you can make it , and in the meantime PLEASE forward this mail, put it up on your FACEBOOK and spread the word. There's a full program of events from 12 till 6pm which will be published very soon on the website www.occupylsx.org

With very best wishes Sarah

_

Dear All,

We will sing We Shall Overcome ( and the other 4 pieces mentioned in last email ) BUT here is the big song ... after 11 weeks of wracking my brain for the right Occupy anthem that everyone can join on for next saturdays day of action the answer has come to us. TAMMY SAMEDE ( check her out on google - she's awesome! )  , principal defendant for Occupy last wednesday got the whole GA to sing this after the court defeat last wednesday. Ive always loved the piece and deeply respect Labi Siffre but I was suprised and delighted to hear that most people knew it and sang along. Heres the link with lyrics. Ill update you with singing times on Saturday afternoon ASAP

Something Inside so Strong

Its slow, but beautiful and totally appropriate ... 'the higher you build your barriers, the taller I become' ... NOW, ALL YOU GOSPEL CHOIRS AND RIGHTEOUS HARMONISERS... LEARN IT AND COME ON DOWN ...

Ive only heard back from about 15 of the 200 on this mailing list ... Have you lost faith? did you think the issues had gone away? did you get bored? Lets pull together and pool the energy for change into something awesome next saturday 28th.

Let me know youre gonna be there and please forward this to all your friends and put this link up everywhere

Best wishes Sarah
